[Question] How does Tesla create occupancy grids (if they do indeed do so) without lidar? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:06 AM PDT This may sound like a stupid question, but as I am learning more about autonomous cars, one of the core pieces of motion planning is the creation of an occupancy map. Most companies do this by fusing lidar data with vision data. but using the lidar output as more of the backbone to which they use and filter out different items (dynamic objects, ground plane etc), downsampling and ultimately turning the 3D lidar info into 2D. Given that Tesla doesn't use lidar, how do they create an occupancy grid map? Or do they even need to? Or do they use the radar data? thanks for helping me understand! [link] [comments]

Current PhD research topics in self driving cars Posted: 23 Jun 2020 10:28 PM PDT I wish to apply for a PhD in AI and just wanted to start some research into such topics. I will be working on a self driving car project so some topics related it would be great. Again I am mainly focusing on the AI side of things and not hardware related topics. Prefer concepts in Reinforcement/Deep learning [link] [comments]
