Best active safety retrofit for older cars so far? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 11:31 AM PST It seems kinda hard to find actual reviews of any of these systems, that do seem to exist on paper. What I'm talking about is things like the Mobileye system that'll add brake warnings, lane keeping, pedestrian detection and so on to older cars: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/16/business/collision-warning-systems-aftermarket.html Is there other game in town? Are there any comparisons of what's the best so far? From the state of things in self driving so far, I've become more interested in defensive tech that assists the human in the nearer term, and if you don't have to buy a new car to get that, even better. With the advent of level 4 and 5 SDCs, will we see a renaissance of microcars? Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:34 PM PST Given that 39% of all trips in the U.S. are personal vehicle trips with a single occupant, and only 20% of Uber's trips are with Uber pool, will rideshare companies in the future get in the business of providing single-occupancy cars to get costs as low as possible? Or will the economics (particularly when congestion pricing becomes significant in urban areas) still favor shared rides? Trying to get the ratio of microcars to medium-sized ones right in my webcomic about life in the year 2120! [link] [comments] |
