Why Isn't Comma.AI as hyped up as other self driving start ups? Posted: 03 May 2020 02:29 PM PDT I been spending all day listening to GeoHotz talks on his Open AI system and reading comma AI medium posts. As someone who admittedly is very skeptical of fully self driving cars let alone self driving taxi services that Uber & Waymo pitch I was pleasantly surprised. Hotz made his case pretty clear that he wasn't going after full autonomy and was creating advance driver assistance that is cheap and could be implemented in many cars already. I am just so dumb founded why many automakers have not contracted Comma AI's technology. It seems that even if having a full self driving car is your ultimate goal providing this option to customers seem's like a no brainer just how satellite radio and better sound systems and even in some cases different engine specs can be optioned. I know the first response will be it has not been properly safety tested but really if that is your main point explain what proper safety testing looks like and why it is a hurdle for an automaker when an automaker could probably absolve themselves of legal liability by saying that any accidents made in advanced cruising modes fall on Comma or Waymo etc. Thank you if you read this and want to engage in a discussion on the actual merits of their technology and business model as well as the merits of settling for advanced driving assistance versus "full autonomy." Stereo Vision, Neural Nets and Demand in Autonomous Vehicles Posted: 02 May 2020 10:49 PM PDT Interesting article on using a Siamese CNN to tackle stereo vision alongside some other insights into Lidar used for self-driving cars. [link] [comments] | ||
