Does Apple's LIDAR have any relevance for self driving cars? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:01 PM PDT The new iPad and upcoming phones have built-in lidar. Is it good enough for use in cars? If not, does it imply that something similar, but perhaps a bit more powerful, is just around the corner for cars? All the cars that use lidar currently seem to have big bulky things sticking out of the car, spinning around. So I'm just wondering if the small, and apparently inexpensive lidar used in Apple's products is robust enough for use with cars soon. As someone who doesn't know much about lidar, I'm just curious.
