Why do they teach self driving cars to recognize pedestrians and cars all that and not moving object/non moving object?

Surely the thing that matters is wether the thing spotted is stationary or moving, and if moving, if it's gonna interfere with the car current path?

Why do they need to train the AI in the car to recognize pedestrians? What's gonna happen when fashion changes and everyone is cycling around on an unicycle with a big ass mohawk? Is the AI gonna be able to still recognize them as pedestrians or are we just gonna kill a few dozen people while they retrain the AI?

    What about dogs? Escaped horses?

Are we gonna train the AI to recognize every possible thing it might encounter?

That all feels like the wrong approach. Modern console stuff like the Kinect combine video with distance detection, that's all that's needed for basic safety. Is that object moving, and if yes, is it going to move in a way that interferes with the car?

I just dont understand why they seem to opt for video recognition AI's instead.
