Who are you all / informal poll

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:15 PM PST

Over time, I've grown to cherish the characters of reddit.com/r/SelfDrivingCars. I have always been curious who you people are, and inspiration struck me to just ask outright.

So, who are you? As much as you're willing to say. I'm particularly interested in:

    .

    .

    .

    A. What field do you work in? (As specific or vague as you'd like)

    B. If you work in the SDC/AV industry, who do you work for? (As specific or vague as you'd like)

    C. How many years of experience do you have?

    D. Who do you think will "win" or "succeed": Waymo/Cruise/Zoox/Tesla/Uber/Argo/Aurora/...

    E. How many years do you think it will be before there is a revenue-generating autonomous taxi service in San Francisco, for the general public? (Non-trivial mapped geo-fence, no safety drivers in the car, teleop ok, municipal infrastructure help ok).

    .

    .

Question about RTK services for real-time GNSS correction

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:58 PM PST

Sometimes its hard to follow the GNSS lingo because it spans so many industries. Looking for some feedback from experienced folks here. Thanks in advance.

    1) Are there many commercial services that prove real-time RTK corrections, which can be received by cars driving on US public roads? Not talking about test tracks/private area where you can have an RTK correction ground station. Also, not talking about correction data that you can use during post processing; needs to be real-time for driving application. The accuracy I am interested in is +/- 1 meter range.

    2) Do cars need to use cellular 4G/LTE to receive these corrections, or do they need a special receiver?

    3) Are there corrections being sent every second, or every minute, or every 10 minutes - what is the window of time where the internet can be OFF and the last received correction will still be valid/good enough?

I am only aware of Trimble RTX used by GM Super Cruise. Link to RTX. I believe it doesn't require any special receiver; just uses 4G/LTE. I don't know if its corrections every second / every hour etc.

    Thank you.

    Multi-lane autonomy?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 09:25 PM PST

I read up on Nissan's propilot and it says the first (and current version) is for single-lane roads. That's all but useless. Does OP overcome this limitation or is propilot a non-starter?
