Posted: 10 Dec 2019 01:07 PM PST "It's been an enormously difficult, complicated slog, and it's far more complicated and involved than we thought it would be," says Nathaniel Fairfield, who leads the team that oversees the decision-making part of Waymo's onboard software. "But it is a huge deal." This is Nathaniel Fairfield, who's been with Google from the start, saying - it's far more complicated and involved than we thought it would be - meaning, it's more difficult than we thought it would be when we started the project ten years ago. Some are taking this to mean Waymo just realized how hard it is and they're still ten years away. So I think Waymo needs to clarify this statement. [link] [comments] | ||

What degree of fidelity is necessary for the plant models in ACC and lane keeping? Posted: 10 Dec 2019 08:45 AM PST I'm designing controllers for the lane keep assist of a semi-autonomous vehicle, and so far I've been using relatively low fidelity plant models (linear, kinematic, 3dof) for my controllers. I am somewhat getting the intended behavior in simulation, but I've been having doubts if these plant models will hold up in the real vehicle. Should I be using higher fidelity plant models?
