(Serious) to engineers working in this field, what's company culture like? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 11:12 PM PST I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the workload in my current job in this field. I don't know if this is symptomatic of my company or of start ups or tech culture in general. I suspect the answer is a mix of all three. But generally, I find myself spending 45 hours a week at work at minimum, and Idk... Am I naive for expecting that a 9-6 job in this industry? [link] [comments]

(Which) Lidar Sensor for pedestrian analysis Posted: 03 Dec 2019 02:48 AM PST Hello everyone, I am planning to build a tool that counts pedestrians. A lidar sensor combined with an object detection algorithm such as Yolo v3 or CNNs. Since this technology is especially advanced amongst modern car crash-prevention systems, I figured there are a bunch of experts around here. Do you guys have recommendations for hardware? Only worked with software so far. Preferrably not the most expensive stuff since I am a student... Cheers and many thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Will Bambi stop getting flattened when self-driving cars take over? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 06:26 PM PST 1.5 million deer are hit by cars each year in the U.S. I believe Bambi will be safe once self-driving cars take over due to lidar and other sensors. Deer sneak up on human-driven cars but can't sneak up on robocars. "About 1.5 million deer-vehicle collisions happen each year in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Those accidents cause about 150 deaths and $1.1 billion in property damage annually, according to NHTSA." [link] [comments] |
